Mascara and primers aside, we now have several other options available to really thicken and lengthen our lashes!

Lash Extensions

This is where silk or synthtic replicas of eyelashes, with length and curl variations blended to suit, are adhered lengthwise to our natural lashes.

This can definitely give length and fullness to the lashes, and really give your eyes a lift, and for some people can mean you don't need to wear mascara.

There are some downsides to lash extensions.

If you don't wear any other makeup, they are a fantastic option. If you do, as they say, results can vary. I found that they didn't last as long as promised on me,and I felt a little irritation from them.

As they start to fall out, you can look rather odd, and will no doubt run to the mascara wand, which can further deteriorate the lashes.

I usually end up putting my little lash flares with the lashes for bridal and special occassions, just to give them a boost.

These are commonly called Lash flares. They are fantastic for adding natural volume and length, and unlike strip lashes if for any reason one comes unstuck, removing it will be fairly undetectable!

Lash extensions are a great idea if you are going on an overseas holiday,or are having a lot of events around the wedding date, and dont want to fuss too much with makeup.

Revitalash

Revitalash is an amazing product, that lenghtens the life cycle of your eyelashes. As your eyelashes aren't falling out as quickly, they get the chance to grow a lot longer and thicker, naturally! You will definitely see results but it takes 3 months for it to really show its full potential. This is also a cheaper long term option than lash extensions. It costs about $130 for a 3 to 4 month supply.

I am currently using the product and am loving the results!

I have heard that if you use it with your lash extensions it can increase the life of the extensions!

Revitalash is available in New Zealand through Trinity Clinics. This link will give you more information about them:

Email them, and they will send some out to you, or point you to their closest clinic.

Official Mascara Correspondent Ashleigh Ciucci lengthens her lashes this week with CoverGirl LashBlast 24HR Mascara. Is it meh, feh, or hells to the yeah? Find out. To start, I love love love this mascara. I reviewed the straight Black version a few months back and couldn't rave enough. Great formula, great brush, great lashes, great staying power. So I was anxious to try one of their colored versions. The options were Black Brown, Blue Black and Black Gold. Because I love anything gold (jewelry, shoes, bags) I went for the Black Gold version.  While the payoff of the...

Fictionary is a column showcasing beauty-related words that don't exist, but should. This week, I attended a press event held at MAC Pro where I learned about the latest nail news from the behemoth beauty brand. MAC Cosmetics is introducing 31 colors and 3 finishes in the brand's first permanent Nail Lacquer Collection beginning July 5 at Nordstrom and MAC stores; August 2 at counters nationwide. My MAC Pigment CalGel mani We also got to partake in a little nail trick my gal Keri Blair, senior makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics's been doing for years--using MAC Pigments mixed with CalGel to create a custom...

As Joni Mitchell (and later the Counting Crows) sang so sagely, don't it always seem to go/you don't know what you've got till it's gone? Lush feels that, and has brought back some of your favorite Retro Lush items of yore for you to enjoy in 2012. Here, my three faves. Lush Washday Greens Packed with mint oils and chlorphyll for a fresh sudsing experience that's ideal for reviving oily roots.  Lush Slammer Shower Gel Makes your morning shower a little easier on you. It's the shower gel equivalent of Rihanna tune. Lush Pineapple Grunt Smells like vacation, infuses your shower with a...

Fictionary is a column showcasing beauty-related words that don't exist, but should. Growing up with a brother who was essentially Brody from Mallrats, I learned a LOT about comic books. More than I wanted to. Too much of my childhood was spent learning the trivia that differentiates Green Lantern from Wolverine and the nuances of Daredevil vs. Spiderman. While I genuinely was on board with a lot of the sci-fi I had to endure (Quantum Leap, Star Trek: The Next Generation) the canons of Marvel and DC didn't thrill me--until now. Why? Because Benefit has partnered with Marvel on a special edition...

Mally's new Face Defender Foundation with SPF 15 is INCREDIBLE, friends. It doesn't just hide imperfections. That's glamateur stuff. It Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless MINDS them. With a B.B. cream-like consistency (and protection value with SPF 15), the velvety formula glides on like a damn dream while antiaging ingredients abound. All the while, it mattifies, evens skin tone and diminishes the appearance of fine lines. Your hyperpigmentation is Clementine. What are the odds that an oil free foundation could make you appear more youthful AND perfectly camouflage every speck of redness? Probably similar to the odds that I'd unintentionally watch three things featuring...

When I first laid eyes on Goody's new Quik Style Paddle Brush I thought that there is the love child of a paddle brush and muppet Sam The Eagle.  Minus, you know, his signature stuffiness and pomposity. This brush looks downright whimsical while it IS useful.  Right? The likeness is uncanny. But this brush is no basic grooming tool. It cuts your drying time, thanks to its thirsty microfiber bristles that absorb 30% of water as you style. I like giving my wet hair a good once-through with it to detangle and eliminate some of the arduous drying process before I even...

Oh, I say! Clearly I'm getting in touch with my inner C-3PO. I'm going through this THING where I simply am not interested in things unless they're gold and sparkly. It started with my investment in vintage goldware, then extended to my gold sparkly iPhone cover (I've gotten two in a row), THEN my Brighton Beach manicure and my latest? Sparkly Soul headbands to rock for workouts. Much like how C-3PO was fluent in 6 million forms of communication, this hair holder backer is fluent in 6 million forms of function and beauty. SERIOUSLY. It magically stays on your head no matter how...

Vidal Sassoon, head honcho of the haircut, passed away today at 84. He was one of the most respected stylists in the industry and took the beauty world by storm with his architectural hair shapes. I lived for the dusky, shiny locks he tended to in his '80s commercials. I used to scream to my mother that I needed Vidal Sassoon everything. RIP, Vidal. Yes, Clariiiiiiiiiiice, it's a little Hannibal Lecter, but this easy breezy single-use mask is an instant re-moistifyer (I know, that's not a word) and skin soother. It's Dr. Jart's new Most Moist Water-Full Hydrogel Mask and let me tell you, in the select words of Florence Welch, what the water gave me. I left the mask on about 15 minutes and emerged afterward with skin that was smoother, more elastic and kind of... bouncy!  I do think that $9 is a lot for a single-use mask, but as a special occasion pre-cursor, I'd keep it on-hand. It's also perfect post-plane...

Ted Gibson's hair concept for Christina Ricci's Met Ball 2012 moment was bun couture! Here are the deets, straight from Ted. "Christina needed the perfect style to showcase her amazing Thakoon gown, and I knew this chic, sleek chignon would be absolutely gorgeous on her. First, I started off with wet hair and sprayed build it blow drying agent on mids and ends. I then applied fix it gel all over and blew hair dry with a medium sized round brush in one inch sections. Next, I flat ironed her entire head. I parted her hair in a deep side part and...

Celebrity stylist Ted Gibson created a gorgeous Grecian goddess look for Ashley Greene to wear to the 2012 Met Ball. She looks stunning, per ush. Love the white gown. Here, the deets from Ted. Says Ted,  "We did it again! Ashley looks incredible with soft, sexy, undone hair and this look complimented her Donna Karen gown perfectly. I started with fix it gel and hair sheet styling over her entire head. I then blew dry her hair with my fingers to add texture as opposed to a smooth surface - I wanted to rough the cuticle up. Next, I used a medium...

Adir Abergel for Frederic Fekkai tended to the tresses of Kristen Stewart at the Met Gala 2012 last night. The inspiration was rock and roll, vintage Kate Moss with a tousled, sexy, natural look. To create texture, he then applied Fekkai Summer Hair Beach Waves Spray starting one inch from the top of the head and down to the roots. He rough dried the hair to create maximum volume. Once the hair was dry, Adir used...

Renato Campora for Frederic Fekkai styled the locks of Jessica Alba for the 2012 Met Ball. The inspiration was, appropriately, an  asymmetrical look inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli. This hairstyle is all about being well designed, structured and elegant. Here's how to get the look. On wet hair, Renato applied Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel throughout and then formed a strong side part. He dried the hair with a round brush to create volume and shine. Next, he used a one inch curling iron to create the body and shape of the look. Renato then brushed through the curls,...

Celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis created Lea Michele's Met Ball makeup concept last night. Here are the deets on how to recreate it. Melanie put the focus on Lea’s eyes by lining them with a deep plum liner and then layered copper toned eye shadows on the actress’s lids. Using a soft crease brush, she blended the edges of the liner with the shadow to create definition and give that smokey eye effect. Melanie then upped the drama by swiping a dark eye shadow over the liner and added two coats of black mascara for a finishing touch. To offset the...

Emma Stone's nails for last night's 2012 Met Gala came courtesy of nail guru to the stars, Elle Gerstein. I just got off the phone with her, and here's how she got that bright blue hue. Read on for the details. "For Emma's nails we wanted to match her really cool bright teal blue she had on toes. The Lanvin designers wanted to do unusual color to compliment her dress. To achieve that blue, I mixed Revlon's Surf with the brand's Blue Mosaic" I LOVE a turquoise and red moment and even decorated my last apartment in that color scheme. Elle also...
